Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Neo Kok Beng on redefining National Service
In parliament on Friday (Feb 27), NMP Neo Kok Beng said that Singapore’s Enlistment Act requires males over the age of 18 to undergo compulsory National Service (NS) in the Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Police Force or the Singapore Civil Defence Force. Noting that there are voluntary services in each of these uniformed services, he proposed redefining NS to include voluntary services of this nature.
