Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 3: Jessica Tan on responsible AI

07:22 Min

As AI becomes part of everyday decisions that affect people’s lives, more clarity, transparency and accountability is needed. At the same time, the pace of deployment means this must be done in a practical and proportionate way, as not all AI systems carry the same level of risk. Singapore should therefore move towards requiring independent audits where potential harm is significant. This will ensure it does not overburden small- and medium-sized enterprises or slow innovation, while giving Singaporeans confidence that AI is being used responsibly. MP Jessica Tan made these points in parliament on Monday (Mar 2).
