Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 4: Mariam Jaafar on senior employment

02:06 Min

With longer health spans, many seniors want to work, some need to work and yet many struggle. MP Mariam Jaafar said this in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 3), where she welcomed the extension of the Senior Employment Credit and the CPF Transition Offset. However, she said this is not enough. She proposed that seniors be given tailored training that fits their capabilities and abilities and dedicated support to place them in jobs that fit their lives. She also asked if work could be redesigned to include lighter duties, flexible hours and mentor-type positions.
