Debate on President’s speech: Yeo Wan Ling on kindness in improving lives and livelihoods

Measure progress by how we move as a society to improve the livelihoods of workers and the lives of people, said MP Yeo Wan Ling. Speaking in parliament on Thursday (Sep 25), she highlighted the need to act and think with kindness. One group she focused on - platform workers. Ms Yeo stressed the need to make progress in recognising and respecting their contributions. Another group is taxi and private-hire drivers and bus drivers, especially with the planned rollout of autonomous vehicles, upcoming Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System Link and discussions with Malaysia to expand cross-border transport opportunities. She said the National Trades Union Congress is raising their concerns with the relevant parties to ensure that drivers are assured of jobs, as well as support and time needed to transit to these jobs.
