Debate on President’s speech: Zaqy Mohamad on tackling the effects of climate disruption

27:33 Min

Climate change is “the defining challenge of our generation” and Singapore has been taking active measures to tackle it - from committing S$100 billion to coastal protection over the next century, to national heat strategies, bolstering food and water resilience and innovating in the circular economy. This reflects a philosophy of governance as the PAP plans, prepares and acts not for the next election cycle but for future generations. Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Zaqy Mohamad said this in parliament on Monday (Sep 22). He also gave the update that as of August 2025, 78 per cent of eligible HDB and 55 per cent of private households had claimed their Climate Vouchers, of which S$187 million has been used. This helps households save on utility bills, while helping to lower the country’s carbon footprint.
