Dennis Tan on Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (Amendment) Bill
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (Amendment) Bill, while seemingly technical, is a critical piece of legislation and a necessary step in Singapore’s pathway towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and crucially, in striving to meet the Paris Agreement goals, said MP Dennis Tan. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Oct 14), he pointed out that Singapore is well-placed to lead in the regional sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry. Mr Tan noted that the new provisions in the Bill allow for a more straightforward and stable approach to SAF's adoption. He also sought clarifications on the Bill. These include the rationale and transparency of the proposed funding mechanism, issues of process regarding the implementation of the fund, impact of the new levy on travellers, and efforts to ensure that Singapore remains ready to scale and capture market share as the technology develops.
