Dennis Tan on Community Disputes Resolution (Amendment) Bill

13:55 Min

The Bill brings new and much-needed enhancements to the Community Disputes Management Framework, said MP Dennis Tan. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 12), he hopes the key changes, in particular the setting up of the Community Relations Unit (CRU), will bring significant improvements in the way disputes are managed in the community. He also looks forward to the day the CRU will expand its operations to the rest of Singapore, including Hougang. Mr Tan also sought clarifications on Bill. He wanted to know the size of the initial team of the CRU and the Government's current plan to scale up. He asked if there are plans to expand the scope of the disputes beyond noise and hoarding. Turning to the installation of noise sensors, Mr Tan pointed out that resources are often limited and hopes the Government can ensure it has sufficient sensors. He wanted to know how the authorities would deal with recalcitrant noise nuisance after the sensors have been removed.
