Desmond Tan on police deployment at Westlite Jalan Tukang Dormitory
Police officers were deployed to Westlite Jalan Tukang Dormitory on Oct 13 due to a "potential for violence", said Minister of State for Home Affairs Desmond Tan. Replying to an MP's question in Parliament on Monday (Nov 1), he said additional units were put on standby but were not deployed as Manpower Ministry officers and dormitory staff engaged the workers and managed to resolve the situation. Turning to another MP's question, he said officers from the Special Operations Command have been activated on two occasions to respond to public order incidents in the last five years. These were at the Singapore Boys' Home in September 2016 and September 2018.
