Eileen Chong on Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Bill
Singapore’s new Online Safety Commission will have an extensive mandate and should be required to publish annual reports on its work, said NCMP Eileen Chong in parliament on Wednesday (Nov 5). The Workers’ Party tabled an amendment to the Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Bill on this issue. Ms Chong said this will help ensure transparency and consistency in decision-making, and inform wider responses to online harms. She asked what mechanisms are in place to ensure the Commission’s independence, particularly when handling politically sensitive content, and how it will responsibly implement its powers to unmask anonymous users.
