Gan Siow Huang on limited potential of tidal energy for Singapore

00:59 Min

There are no current plans to deploy tidal energy in Singapore. Much of Singapore's territorial waters is already used for ports, anchorage and shipping lanes. Given the limited sea space available, the amount of tidal energy that can realistically be harnessed domestically is estimated to be less than one per cent of Singapore's energy needs. Minister of State for Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang said this in reply to parliamentary questions on Thursday (May 7).
