Gerald Giam on Energy (Resilience Measures and Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill

The Energy (Resilience Measures and Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill is "timely" as it seeks to better safeguard and build up Singapore's energy security. This comes in light of the disruption of natural gas imports from Indonesia that has "severely impacted" a vital source of Singapore's power generation needs and consequentially increased electricity prices, said MP Gerald Giam. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 2), he sought clarity on how the Government plans to reduce Singapore's heavy reliance on imported natural gas partnered with the volatility of diplomatic relations. Mr Giam also called for a special one-off electricity rebate for lower-income households to tide through the price hikes.
