Gerald Giam on Skills and Workforce Development Agency Bill
The creation of the Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) reverses the decision to split the then Workforce Development Agency in 2016, said MP Gerald Giam in parliament on Tuesday (May 5). Saying the rationale for the 2016 move was unclear, he asked how the government will measure the success of this merger compared to that separation. Mr Giam suggested the following key performance indicators as a starting framework to ensure better accountability - first, the proportion of public training subsidies going to courses that yield documented employment outcomes within six months; second, the percentage of subsidised training enrolments in courses mapped to documented Shortage Occupation List occupations; and third, median time to employment following SWDA-assisted job searches.
