Hamid Razak on Skills and Workforce Development Agency Bill
The new Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) could consider fine-tuning SkillsFuture into two clear pathways - one focusing on in-sector progression for deeper specialisation; the other on sector entry and conversion, with transparent expectations on likely starting roles, salary ranges and additional steps needed such as apprenticeships or attachments. Making this suggestion in parliament on Tuesday (May 5), MP Hamid Razak said this could address the issue of workers feeling discouraged when post-training job outcomes do not match expectations. He gave the example of mid-career workers undergoing training in high-demand areas, but finding they cannot enter those sectors at the same level of seniority and remuneration.
