Hazlina Abdul Halim on Statutes (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill
The Statutes (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill appears to be technical, but it is necessary to understand how the provisions will be implemented as there are implications on governance frameworks, coordination between agencies, public confidence and awareness, said MP Hazlina Abdul Halim. Speaking in parliament on Thursday (May 7), she sought clarification on the role of the Building and Construction Authority in selected programmes for estates, public spaces and infrastructures. She wanted to know how its mandate will complement the functions of existing agencies and town councils. Turning to the stiffer penalties for feeding wildlife, she wanted to know how the government would work with social service agencies to engage and educate the public, especially seniors and vulnerable groups.
