Indranee Rajah on Singapore’s drop in a recent world talent ranking
Singapore fell from second to seventh in the International Institute for Management Development’s World Talent Ranking 2025. The main factors driving this decline were perceptions on employee training and apprenticeships, labour force growth and availability of skilled labour, said Second Minister for Finance Indranee Rajah. She added that the indicators “do not fully capture the strength of (Singapore’s) education system”. Total public expenditure on education per student rather than as a percentage of GDP remains relatively high and outcomes remain strong, as reflected in international benchmarks. She noted that Singapore is still in the top 10 and its ranking has been on the uptrend over the past decade. Ms Indranee was answering an MP’s question in parliament on Friday (Sep 26).
