Janil Puthucheary on implementation of recommendations by the National Wellness Committee for Junior Doctors
Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary said in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 4) that since May 2024, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has made progress in implementing the recommendations of the National Wellness Committee for Junior Doctors. This includes the appointment of Chief Wellness Officers in each healthcare cluster and the rollout of the Hospital Clinician Scheme at all hospitals. In his reply to an MP's questions, he stated that in collaboration with the healthcare clusters, MOH has also implemented pilots aimed at improving the work hours of junior doctors. To date, close to half of all clinical departments with junior doctors have implemented shift rosters or have limited their doctors to working no more than 24 hours continuously, he said. He added that this practice will be extended to more departments progressively as Singapore expands its medical workforce.
