Japan's key opposition forces form new party as snap election looms
Two of Japan's main opposition parties — the Constitutional Democratic Party and former ruling coalition partner, Komeito — have cemented their partnership. The newly formed Centrist Reform Alliance is seeking to counter Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's ruling coalition, ahead of a snap election expected to be announced on Monday. Komeito, which ended its 26-year partnership with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party last October last year, advocates for close ties with China. Michiyo Ishida reports from Tokyo.
