Joan Pereira on CareShield Life and Long-Term Care (Amendment) Bill
The planned underwriting criteria for Optional Cohorts - those born before 1980 - under CareShield Life is set to be reinstated, which will reduce the extent of premium increases for them. However, MP Joan Pereira called on the government to continue monitoring the situation to ensure they can afford the long-term care they need. She asked if there is data on the percentage of this group that has made other plans to pay for the provision of long-term care, such as private insurance, and whether those plans are deemed sufficient. Overall, Ms Pereira sought assurance on plans to ensure CareShield Life remains affordable beyond the next five years of premium support. She also urged more efforts to raise public awareness about the costs associated with long-term care and the kinds of support available. She spoke in parliament on Wednesday (Oct 15).
