Joan Pereira on Transport Sector (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill
While there is a need to guard against disruptive and potentially dangerous behaviour on Singapore’s public transport system, enforcement officers should be trained to handle vulnerable commuters such as the elderly, people with disabilities or those with mental health challenges, said MP Joan Pereira. In parliament on Tuesday (Oct 14), she also noted that bus drivers will be the first line of defence, but this must not add to their stress or put their safety at risk. She asked if more enforcement officers will be deployed along bus routes or whether bus drivers will be able to call for help from quick response teams.
