Louis Ng on Singapore’s COVID-19 response
COVID-19 was a trying time but Singapore pulled through together as a nation, said MP Louis Ng. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Mar 20), he said a silver lining of this difficult period is that it shone the spotlight on the “invisible” in the community. One such group is the low-wage migrant workers. Mr Ng said COVID-19 highlighted their plight. He said COVID-19 also showed how the community came together to help migrant workers, as Singapore made great strides in improving dormitory conditions and enforcing electronic payment of salaries. He stressed the need to use the momentum from COVID-19 to continue to fight for a more inclusive and fairer Singapore for migrant workers. This includes further improving their living conditions, enforcing electronic payment for all workers and sustaining partnerships with civil society.
