Low Yen Ling on tourism development in Jurong Lake District

06:21 Min

The Government is exploring possibilities for a new tourism development at Jurong Lake District and monitoring market sentiment, after a request for proposal was launched last year and closed with no submissions. Answering an MP’s question on the issue in Parliament on Wednesday (Jul 5), Minister of State for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling said the Singapore Tourism Board remains confident in the tourism potential of the site as it is next to the new Science Centre and Jurong Lake Gardens. She said last year, the war in Ukraine and an overall slowdown in the global economy created an uncertain economic environment, especially for the tourism sector. Ms Low gave the assurance that “a string of attractions” will be created around the lake. This is part of overall plans to develop Jurong Lake District into the largest mixed-use business district outside the city centre, she said.
