Maliki Osman on efforts of schools to promote understanding of racial and religious groups

01:45 Min

In primary schools, students learn about living in a multicultural society through a range of subjects. In Character and Citizenship Education, they learn about the major cultures in Singapore, as well as ways to relate to people from different races and religions. In Social Studies, students explore the contributions of different racial communities and how they have shaped Singapore's racial and religious diversity. Students also learn about the importance of respecting and appreciating different cultures. Schools celebrate different cultural festivals and organise learning journeys to museums, as well as cultural and heritage sites. The Ministry of Education provides opportunities for students to interact with peers from different backgrounds within and across schools. Second Minister for Education Maliki Osman highlighted these efforts in reply to an MP’s question in Parliament on Monday (May 8).
