Mark Lee on supporting Singaporeans in starting and raising families
Businesses, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), play a vital role in shaping a family-friendly Singapore, said NMP Mark Lee. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 5), he pointed out that SMEs - the “silent engines” of the economy - are often underappreciated. Beyond their economic contributions, SMEs bring something deeply personal to their role - a genuine understanding of family priorities, he said. He stressed the need to recognise and celebrate companies that are aligned with the national objectives of supporting families. He suggested a public awareness campaign to publicise best practices and success stories of family-friendly policies, as well as highlight SMEs that have overcome resource constraints. They should enjoy advantages such as greater priority in Government procurement processes or temporary enhancements to foreign work pass access, said Mr Lee.
