Ministerial statement: Teo Chee Hean on Singapore-Indonesia agreements under expanded framework
Singapore and Indonesia recently signed agreements on three longstanding bilateral issues, involving airspace, extradition and military training. Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean told Parliament that the agreements were carefully negotiated to “achieve a good balance of benefits for both sides which are durable and for the long haul”. Giving details of the agreements, he called them a “significant milestone” in ties, reflecting the “strength and maturity” of bilateral relations and providing a strong basis for future cooperation. He said the focus of both sides now is to bring the deals into force through their respective domestic processes and - in the case of the Flight Information Region - by bringing it to the International Civil Aviation Organization. Mr Teo was delivering a ministerial statement on Monday (Feb 14).
