01:20:21 Min

In Parliament on Monday (Jul 3), Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean, Second Minister for Law Edwin Tong and Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam responded to clarifications sought by members of the House on the rental of state properties at Ridout Road by Mr Shanmugam and Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. This section largely dealt with the rental process and prices for black-and-white bungalows, issues of the size and valuation of land, and the maintenance of such properties. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also rose to speak in response to a question from MP Denise Phua. He explained why he tasked the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) to conduct a formal investigation into the matter and asked SM Teo to carry out a review to complement the CPIB probe. Mr Lee said it was very important that there had been an accounting of the affair in the House and Members had the full opportunity to ask questions and clarify doubts. He said this also demonstrated how the PAP is determined to uphold the standards of integrity and incorruptibility that it has set itself. Mr Lee said ministers Shanmugam and Balakrishnan have done nothing wrong and retain his full confidence. *Video quality and audio issues inherent from source
