Murali Pillai on insurance requirements for electric vehicle charging stations

02:29 Min

Electric vehicle (EV) charging operators are required to maintain a public liability insurance policy which covers personal injury, death or damage to property or third parties arising from EV charging operations, including fire. The minimum coverage is S$2 million per incident. Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 16). As the incidence of EV fires is currently low, the authorities will monitor the situation and take whatever further steps as necessary. He said this in response to a supplementary question on whether other safety requirements will be imposed, such as the installation of sprinklers and fire extinguishers near EV charging points.
