New bill introduced to ensure service continuity for critical land, air and sea transport firms

The Transport Ministry has introduced a bill to ensure critical land, air and sea firms can continue to provide essential services. Respective authorities will be able to place additional controls on designated firms that have significant market share or specialised expertise. Under proposed changes, such firms will have to seek approval from the sector authority to change ownership, CEO or chairperson. If a firm becomes unable to provide essential transport services, the minister will have step-in powers. If passed, the bill may come into force in the second half of this year.
