Ng Ling Ling on Good Samaritan Food Donation Bill

08:13 Min

The Good Samaritan Food Donation Bill will help to solve Singapore’s food wastage problem, mitigate the fear of liabilities and encourage more potential donors to step forward, said MP Ng Ling Ling. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Aug 7), she said it will help to foster a more caring and compassionate community in the long term. Ms Ng hopes that the Bill will become a pillar to sustain Singapore’s collective work towards reducing food wastage, supporting food-insecure communities and fostering a culture of generosity and responsibility. She also sought clarifications on the administration and imposition of penalties in serious breaches, as well as possible mediation processes. She wanted to know if the Government would be looking at any statutory board, such as the Singapore Food Agency, to be responsible for liabilities to be waived, and whether the investigations into serious breaches would be similar to that of contamination and gastroenteritis incidents. Ms Ng also called for a clear and accessible mediation mechanism to resolve conflicts efficiently and fairly.
