Older adults in Singapore at risk of malnutrition as many do not meet recommended protein intake

03:01 Min

Several hospitals in Singapore are seeing more malnutrition cases among older adults, especially when it comes to eating protein and key vitamins. The National University Hospital has found that one in seven older persons is at risk of malnutrition. Doctors warned this trend could rise if unchecked, and could lead to a greater risk of dementia or falls among seniors. The recommended amount of protein seniors should eat during each meal is around 20g to 30g, or about a palm-sized piece of chicken breast. However, the most recent national nutrition survey revealed that one in two seniors aged 50 to 69 years old do not meet that recommended intake. Sabrina Ng reports.
