Bangladesh to ramp up security after polling stations flagged as vulnerable to violence
Bangladeshis will head to the polls on Thursday, in a key test of the country's return to democracy since the ouster of leader Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. Security has been ramped up, with more than 150,000 police officers after more than half of polling stations were flagged as vulnerable to violence. Dr Amit Ranjan, a research fellow for the Institute of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore, shared more about the key contenders, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami.
