The target set for the PaREnthood Genetic DIsease Carrier Test (PREDICT) programme was too ambitious and it - as well as the pilot as a whole - will be reviewed. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said this in parliament on Tuesday (Apr 7) in reply to an MP’s question. PREDICT was aimed at enhancing prenatal screening of carriers of genetic disorders. It was offered to almost all couples attended to by KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The target was 40,000 married couples between 2024 and 2027 but fewer than 1,300 showed interest and about 800 have undergone the test to date, said Mr Ong.
