Patrick Tay in debate on securing Singaporeans’ jobs and livelihoods, and foreign talent policy

In Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 14), MP Patrick Tay voiced concern about several points made by the Progress Singapore Party’s Leong Mun Wai in his motion on Singapore’s foreign talent policy. These included a call to significantly raise Employment Pass and S Pass qualifying salaries. Mr Tay explained why this should be done in a carefully considered manner. He also said some Singaporean workers experience discrimination not because of foreign competition, but due to a small proportion of egregious companies “out to exploit the system”. Mr Tay welcomed the decision to legislate fair employment guidelines and set up a tribunal to tackle workplace discrimination as “big and bold moves”. *Audio issues inherent from source
