Patrick Tay on Workplace Fairness Bill
The Workplace Fairness Bill is a new and dedicated piece of legislation to address workplace discrimination across several important protected characteristics, from pre-employment to post-employment, said MP Patrick Tay in Parliament on Tuesday (Jan 7). He highlighted that the success of the Bill depends on five key factors which he calls the “five Cs” - coverage, clarity, communication, capability and complement. He also stated that while the Bill will confer rights and protection of workers, employees will need to feel safe to report any discrimination. He highlighted the crucial role that unions play in such instances and called for the Industrial Relations Act to be amended so that unions can provide limited representation for Professionals, Managers and Executives regarding disputes under the Bill.
