Pritam Singh on Courts (Civil and Criminal Justice) Reform Bill
The Workers' Party supports the Courts (Civil and Criminal Justice) Reform Bill and the majority of the proposed amendments, such as the ones related to supporting the digital transformation of the judiciary, the simplification of court terminology and civil justice reforms. Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh, who said this in Parliament on Monday (Sep 13), also sought clarifications on the right of the Attorney-General to intervene in cases and proceedings in the public interest. He wanted to know what triggered the proposed amendments. He asked if there are possible cases which have not come up that the Government is preparing for as a contingency, and whether there are new areas of public interest that the Government is trying to protect.
