Race & Racism in Singapore: A Forum
Race & Racism in Singapore
Recent racist incidents draw attention to the state of Singapore’s multiracialism and social cohesion. It is necessary to better understand how we can sustain dialogue on race beyond trigger events, how we might enable constructive discussions about race across social segments and whether we should arrive at a collective consensus on what is considered acceptable or unacceptable behaviour in relation to race. Minister of Finance, Lawrence Wong, was the keynote speaker at the IPS-RSIS forum on Race and Racism in Singapore. He addressed those topics in his speech and in a dialogue with Dr Shashi Jayakumar, Head of RSIS’ Centre of Excellence for National Security.
