Rachel Ong on supporting Singaporeans in starting and raising families

17:23 Min

Singapore must confront two pressing challenges as it reviews its policies to better support families – first, the impact of social media on children and teenagers; and second, the daily difficulties faced by families raising children with disabilities. MP Rachel Ong said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 5). She called for delaying the use of social media until at least the age of 16 and promoting outdoor play and physical activity to help teens disconnect and nurture their overall well-being. She also proposed extending childcare leave for parents of children with disabilities with high support needs to at least age 18, or legislating flexible work arrangements for them, with medical certification required to prevent abuse.
