Raeesah Khan admits to lying in Parliament about allegation that police mishandled rape case
Workers' Party MP Raeesah Khan admitted that she had previously lied in Parliament about a sexual assault case that she alleged was mishandled by the police. She said she had not accompanied the rape victim to a police station, as she claimed, but instead heard the victim’s story told in a women’s support group. She said she had herself been sexually assaulted while studying abroad and had not had the courage to reveal this. In Parliament on Monday (Nov 1), Leader of the House Indranee Rajah sought several clarifications from Ms Khan and noted that the untruths had been repeated three times. She raised a complaint for the matter to be referred to the Committee of Privileges.
