Raj Joshua Thomas on Online Criminal Harms Bill
The Online Criminal Harms Bill is timely and important to update Singapore’s laws to deal with new types of criminal offences arising from the digital sphere, where most commercial transactions can now be done. Two aspects of the Bill are particularly important. First, it is one of the few laws that will have extra-territorial jurisdiction. Second, it takes a proactive approach in empowering the authorities to require good practices by designated service providers to prevent the commission of serious offences. NMP Raj Joshua Thomas made these points in Parliament on Wednesday (Jul 5). He also sought a clarification on the factors that will be taken into account in deciding whether a person should be granted bail when the offence is failure to comply with Directions under the Bill.
