Seah Kian Peng on Women's Charter (Family Violence and Other Matters) (Amendment) Bill

03:08 Min

In cases of family violence, it is important that victims’ identities be protected, said MP Seah Kian Peng in Parliament on Tuesday (Jul 4). He supported an amendment in a new Bill to prohibit the publication or broadcast of identifiable information except with the consent of the victim and approval of the Director-General of Social Welfare. However, Mr Seah said this should not apply to perpetrators, even though naming them could also lead to the victims being identified. He pointed out the potential deterrent effect of naming perpetrators and asked that this be seriously considered when it comes to re-offenders.
