Shawn Huang on positive social mixing outcomes of full subject-based banding in schools
Students in schools which are piloting full subject-based banding (SBB) have a wider and more diverse network of friends, as well as more positive attitudes towards peers from different backgrounds. Teachers also observed that students take greater ownership of their learning and are more motivated to overcome challenges. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education Shawn Huang shared these observations in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 4). He said that the Ministry of Education will continue to monitor the outcomes and support schools and teachers in implementing SBB programmes.
