15:09 Min

Singapore is dropping its “30 by 30” food target due to high costs and limited land. Under an updated road map, local farms are expected to meet 20 percent of the country’s fibre needs by 2035. They are also to supply about a third of the country’s protein needs. Singapore still imports over 90 percent of its food needs. Authorities are studying the feasibility of setting up a facility to help local farmers cut costs and business risks. Other strategies include efficient stockpiling and finding more supplier partners from around the world. CNA spoke with Professor Veera Sekaran from NUS for his insights.
