Singapore urges limit to vetoes by permanent members, more inclusive UN

Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has called for reforms of the United Nations that would make it more inclusive and effective, to maintain peace and development. Delivering Singapore’s national statement at the UN General Assembly in New York, he urged the world body to limit what he called the increasing use of veto powers by the five permanent members of the Security Council, at a time of widening conflicts.
