Sitoh Yih Pin on public housing motions
Be careful what you wish for - that was the warning from MP Sitoh Yih Pin as he responded to suggestions on public housing policy made by NCMP Leong Mun Wai in Parliament on Monday (Feb 6). He said Mr Leong’s ideas could lead to property prices tumbling - a frightening prospect in Singapore where 89 per cent of the population are homeowners. Mr Sitoh explained why land cannot be transferred at less than market price - there have been instances, he said, such as for building public hospitals, military training camps and even part of Gardens by the Bay, but those are public amenities, which public housing is not.
