Sun Xueling on number of infant and childcare places

As at end-2024, there were about 16,000 infant care places, with around 70 per cent taken up. For childcare, there were around 200,000 places, with about 77 per cent taken up. The utililisation rates vary across planning areas - the median utilisation rate for infant care is at 69 per cent and for childcare centres at 74 per cent. The utilisation rates for all planning areas are below 90 per cent for both infant care and childcare. Minister of State for Social and Family Development Sun Xueling gave this update in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 18).
