Syed Harun Alhabsyi on sleep sufficiency among school-going youth
The Ministry of Education monitors sleep sufficiency by surveying Primary 5 and Secondary 3 students. Last year, they reported getting an average of seven hours of sleep on school days - slightly more than in 2023. Students are taught healthy sleep habits and time management skills in school. Meanwhile, schools have the autonomy to decide on their start time, which is no earlier than 7.30am. Personal learning devices for secondary school students are set to go into sleep mode at 10.30pm. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education Syed Harun Alhabsyi gave these details in parliament on Wednesday (Aug 5) in reply to an MP’s questions.
