Sylvia Lim on Cross-Border Railways (Border Control Co-Location) Bill
The Cross-Border Railways (Border Control Co-Location) Bill seeks to co-locate border control procedures by Singapore and Malaysia at the point of departure, enabling passengers to disembark upon arrival without further checks and should be supported, said MP Sylvia Lim. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (May 5), she sought clarifications on various aspects of the bill. She wanted to know under what circumstances would Malaysia be obligated to cede jurisdiction to Singapore. Ms Lim pointed out that while both sides share a colonial heritage and had similar laws at one time, their criminal laws have evolved to show significant differences. It would be useful to know if the government foresees bilateral tensions and whether there are protocols in place to manage them.
