Digital initiatives which enhance efficiency do not necessarily improve the lived experience for seniors, which is why design thinking in this area should be applied in a holistic and empathetic manner. There is a case to be made for allowing seniors who wish to carry on with non-digital options to do so, while those who choose to acquire new skills are provided with the right environment to learn. NMP Usha Chandradas said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Jan 10). She also gave examples of how arts-related initiatives can help in building digital literacy and inclusivity, especially among harder-to-reach groups such as seniors. She said she hoped the Government would tap the local arts community in its whole-of-nation digital strategies.
