Vikram Nair in debate on securing Singaporeans’ jobs and livelihoods, and foreign talent policy
Chapter 9 of Singapore’s free trade agreement with India, known as CECA, allows the free movement of people for temporary purposes; it changes nothing in relation to citizenship, permanent residency or long-term employment, said MP Vikram Nair in Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 14). He therefore questioned what NCMP Leong Mun Wai was trying to achieve with his motion on foreign talent policy. Mr Nair said CECA is one of 26 FTAs Singapore has with other countries and asked why Mr Leong had singled it out. He added that Singaporeans’ anxieties about jobs relate to structural issues that have nothing to do with CECA.
