Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 4: Melvin Yong on promoting safer and healthier workplaces

02:54 Min

As retirement and re-employment ages rise, longer careers must also be safer careers, said MP Melvin Yong in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 3). He noted that while the workplace fatal injury rate has fallen, "improvements must not lead to complacency", and he said the government must take the next decisive steps. Among other suggestions, he proposed that the Ministry of Manpower should strengthen safeguards on working hours and rest periods, and require employers to implement formal Fatigue Risk Management Systems.
