Budget 2026 debate: Rachel Ong on national movement to tackle malnutrition among seniors
In a food-secure city like Singapore, it is worrying to see signs of rising malnutrition among seniors, said MP Rachel Ong. She proposed a national movement to help seniors stay strong through better nutrition, especially adequate protein intake. It would address nutrition gaps caused by practical barriers such as difficulty in chewing or fatigue from cooking, by targeting where seniors eat, how they eat and what they eat. Ms Ong also called for a review of dental subsidies, particularly denture-related costs, as well as steps to address transport-related barriers faced by frail or less well-off seniors. She spoke in parliament on Wednesday (Feb 25).
